Scripture Union Daily Guide 22nd January 2025 Outline
This chapter has its roots in Exodus 40:17, where the tabernacle had been set up. On completion of the setting up of the tabernacle, the leaders of Israel brought various items as offerings for its dedication (Numbers 7:1,2). There is always a place for free-will offerings in the service of God. The more we receive from God, the greater the opportunity to serve Him and our generation with our offerings.
The princes were the first to make provisions for the service of God. This is an example for people in authority and of the highest rank. They ought to use their honour and power and resources to promote the service of God in the places where they live.
Clearly, these offerings were very costly and generous. God deserves the very best from us. He took notice of each of the gift each leader gave. He does not forget any service that is done for Him (see Hebrews 6:10).
Though it was a time of joy and rejoicing, notice the inclusion of sin-offering among each offering. As in our best services, we are conscious that there is sin and therefore, we should be rejoicing with repentant hearts. As we approach God, we must by faith look to Christ as our sin-offering.
What kind of gifts do you give to God in terms of time, money, or kind? What motivates you to give these gifts? See 1 Corinthians 4:7.
